Don’t Wait to Book Your Child’s Sports Physical Near Mukilteo: Here’s Why

Sports-Physical-Mukilteo

School and extracurricular sports are an important opportunity for kids to learn teamwork, time management and resilience, so ensuring they have everything they need on the first day is important. Booking your child’s sports physical as soon as you can will make the process of registering for the team easier.

Get Your Choice of Appointment Times

Physicians’ schedules often fill up extra fast this time of year. If you’re managing your own work schedule plus trying to get kids ready for school, you’ll want an appointment that fits your schedule, not the other way around.

Anticipate That Processing Student Physicals Takes Time

Even if you turn in all your child’s sports forms, someone still needs to review them all and approve them. Getting yours in as soon as possible means your child is less likely to be ineligible to participate on the first day of practice because of delays in processing paperwork.

Ensure Your Child’s Fitness to Participate

Getting medical clearance for your child to join a sport gives you peace of mind as a parent. You can feel confident that they can withstand the typical aches and pains that come with strenuous physical activity during practices and games without worrying that every sign of discomfort is significant.

Could an Iron Infusion Give You More Energy Near Edmonds? Learn the Signs of Low Iron

Low-Iron-Edmonds

Your body counts on iron as an essential mineral for keeping you healthy, and when your iron levels are off, it begins to really take a toll on how your body functions and how you feel. An iron infusion is one of the quickest ways to increase your iron count and restore your energy, but you need to be aware of the problem before you can solve it. Most people feel really fatigued when there’s not enough iron in their body, but that’s a common symptom of many conditions, so it’s important to recognize other signs, too. These are three big signs you have low iron.

Inability to Keep Warm

Strong and healthy blood is full of iron, and if it’s not, your circulatory system won’t work as well. When that happens, you’ll often feel extremely cold, even after adding extra layers of clothing or a blanket, with your extremities often feeling the coldest.

Losing Your Hair

Iron is also key to keeping your hair and scalp healthy, and when there isn’t enough of this mineral to foster growth, you could find your hair loss increasing. People typically lose dozens of hairs a day, so you’ll want to take action if the speed or volume of your hair loss is increasing.

Brain Fog

This kind of poor concentration is pretty common and can have several causes, including not enough restful sleep at night. But if you’re also experiencing other symptoms, it could be that your iron levels aren’t where they should be.

What exactly is the wet sock treatment?

Hi there,
I thought we were out of the woods with the cold season. But last week my kids had ear fullness and pain. What did I do for them? I did the wet sock treatment. Overnight they felt better and ready to go to school the next day.
The wet sock treatment is a centuries-old healing remedy that can help alleviate symptoms of a cold, flu, sinus or ear infection, or upper respiratory congestion. This hydrotherapy technique is an easy and safe way to boost your immune system and promote healing, making you feel better faster.
So, what exactly is the wet sock treatment? The treatment is based on the idea that the body naturally regulates its temperature. By putting on cold, wet socks, the body’s heat is redirected towards the feet and away from other areas, which can help open up congested nasal passages and improve sleep quality. To do the wet sock treatment, you’ll need a pair of cotton socks and a pair of wool socks.
Here are the steps to follow:
Soak the cotton socks in the coldest tap water possible, then wring them out and put them in the fridge for 20 minutes or the freezer for 5 minutes. We want the socks to stay pliable and not frozen hard.
Take a hot bath or shower to warm up your body.
Dry up right away and put on warm pajamas.
Put on cold, wet cotton socks on your feet.
Cover the wet socks with wool socks.
Go to bed, bundle up, and get cozy.
As time passes, the socks will get warm and then will be completely dry. It’s like MAGIC!
It’s important to warm up your body before putting on cold, wet socks, as not doing so can make you sicker. A few months ago, I was sick. One day, I put on the socks right after my shower while still in the bathroom. I went to bed, and within one hour of cuddling with my kids, my socks were dry. The following day, I made the mistake of stopping by to see what the family was watching on TV and only then put on the socks. It was a different experience. Instead of feeling better, I started to get chills. I was worried that my cold was getting worse. However, as soon as I took off the wet socks, the chills stopped. Learn from my mistake: don’t allow any time for your body to cool off before putting on the socks.
Also, if your socks aren’t completely dry in the morning, there may be a unique situation that requires a unique approach. Typically that means the person’s vitality is reduced. We can support you through other immune-boosting treatments at ISM Health to increase your vitality. And it varies from person to person. Reach out to us if you need to troubleshoot ways to increase your vitality.
So, what are the benefits of the wet sock treatment? The treatment can help boost your immune system, making it easier for your body to fight off infections. It can also relieve congestion, reduce inflammation, promote relaxation, and improve circulation throughout the body, which can help bring nutrients and oxygen to the cells and tissues, aiding in the healing process.
In conclusion, the wet sock treatment is a simple, safe, and effective way to promote healing and boost your immune system when you’re feeling under the weather. It’s a natural remedy that has been used for centuries and is still popular today. So, the next time you feel like you’re coming down with something, give it a try and see for yourself the benefits it can provide.

Stay Well,
Dr. Jamie Agisheva and Team

What is Craniosacral Therapy? Your Questions Answered for Holistic Care Near Edmonds

craniosacral therapy edmonds

Craniosacral therapy is growing in popularity, and while you may have heard of this innovative holistic treatment, you might not have a clear understanding of what it is and how it can improve your overall health and wellness. Here are some common questions and answers so you can speak with a naturopathic healthcare provider who offers this care to see if it’s right for you.

What Is It?

The area of focus extends throughout your central nervous system, from the back of your head to the base of your spine. Your healthcare practitioner uses a soft touch at certain pressure points, much like a massage, and you  lay comfortably, fully clothed, throughout the treatment.

Why Is It So Popular?

This holistic treatment is non-invasive and requires no medication. Therapy sessions are usually around one hour long, and the benefits are felt within a few hours to a few days after your treatment, as your central nervous system continues to respond.

How Can It Help Me?

Many people who undergo this simple treatment find their chronic pain and inflammation, anxiety and stress may decrease. Other benefits may include improved sleep, which is foundational to good health.

My Knee Injury and Treatment in Kirkland

Last month, I was demonstrating the Lotus yoga pose to my children. I noticed my 10-year-old sitting on the floor, already comfortably in the criss-cross position resembling a Lotus pose. Intrigued, I asked him if he could place each foot on the opposite thigh. Surprisingly, he did it! I wanted to know if my 6-year-old could do it too. I called out to her to show the criss-cross applesauce, the extreme version. That’s when it happened!

I felt a pop in my left knee.

I could barely walk on it due to pain. And it felt heavy below my knee like it was not part of my body. Being a doctor is no easy task, especially when it comes to dealing with our own injuries or those of our loved ones. The burden of knowledge weighs heavily on us. While many people tend to catastrophize situations, doctors do it with a flair. We are acutely aware of

the worst possible diagnosis and often convince ourselves that those are the ones we will inevitably face.

Also, as a doctor, I’m all too familiar with the hoops patients must jump through within the medical system to receive treatment for a joint injury. It all begins with an X-ray, a standard diagnostic step. Following that, patients are typically prescribed a 6-week course of Physical Therapy.

Only when these PT treatments prove ineffective, are patients finally granted access to an MRI of the painful joint.

NOTE: If you ever hurt your joint, get the X-ray as fast as possible to get the ball rolling.

So the next morning, I went to the urgent care. It is not a fracture. 2 weeks passed – No improvement in pain. During that time, I applied ice packs and heating pads, KT taping, hydrotherapy in the shower, and arnica gel topically. Nothing made it better. There was some temporary relief, but that was it. Then I decided to put myself into a Flowpresso machine.

What is Flowpresso?

Flowpresso uses special compression and deep pressure to help lymphatic fluid flow better and remove waste from our bodies. It also includes heat therapy to improve circulation and create a calming environment for relaxation and healing. People who have tried Flowpresso have experienced better relaxation, sleep, energy, and stress response, as well as faster recovery from injuries. It’s an effective therapy for promoting lymphatic drainage and overall well-being.

I did 4 Flowpresso sessions four days in a row.

After my initial 20-minute session, I noticed improvement with pivoting. Imagine yourself as a driver, getting out of the car. You step on your left leg, pivot, and then step with your right foot. The most painful part for me was the pivoting motion. But this time, after experiencing the benefits of Flowpresso, it felt different. There was a noticeable reduction in pain while pivoting.

For the next 3 days, I varied my sessions between 20 and 40 minutes.

Improvements that I noticed with FlowPresso sessions:

  • The overall swelling was going down and I could straighten my knee more.
  • The bulge in the back of my knee was smaller.
  • Pivoting was getting easier.
  • Less overall pain.
  • Going down the stairs was easier where I could alternate my legs, instead of leading with one.

I was skeptical though:

What if less pain is simply a natural part of recovery?

What if my improvement has nothing to do with the Flowpresso?

I decided to take a break from using the Flowpresso for three days as I was occupied with patient care. At the end of the week, I went on a 60-minute-long walk with a friend. But after the walk, I noticed increased swelling behind my knee and more pain compared to how it was during the week.

However, once I hopped back into the Flowpresso machine, it happened once again. The swelling subsided, and the pain diminished and it lasted longer.

That’s my story of how I used FlowPresso to help my knee pain and swelling.

Who is FlowPresso for?

  • Those who benefit the most from it are individuals with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). The number one recommendation for POTS is compression therapy.
  • My patients with an overlap of fibromyalgia and POTS notice more mobility in their joints and a reduction of body swelling.
  • Those who struggle with insomnia experience improved sleep the night after a 1-hour FlowPresso session.
  • FlowPresso puts people into a parasympathetic mode, creating a sense of relaxation similar to a comforting hug. It is particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with anxiety and depression.

I made a video of me setting myself up on the machine.

You will not have to do it yourself, we will take care of you!

In the video, I talk about contraindications, so please listen to that part. And I talk about the 2 different settings the machine offers.

Best Way to Find a DOT Medical Card Provider Near Lynnwood

dot medical card provider-lynnwood

If you need to get or renew your DOT medical card for work as a commercial driver, you may be worried about finding a quality medical provider who is authorized to complete your physical. Fortunately, using these tips can help you find a doctor who can help keep you on the road.

Use the DOT Online Search Tool

The DOT or Department of Transportation has an online database you can search to find healthcare providers in your area that offer DOT physicals. You can narrow down your search by location or name of the provider. However, not all of these practices are always accepting new patients for DOT visits, so you may need to call a few of them.

Ask Coworkers

Your fellow drivers may have good recommendations based on their own experience in getting their required physical for work. An added bonus is that using the same practice a coworker does may eliminate concerns about whether they’ll take your insurance.

Seek Out Online Reviews

A local healthcare provider with great reviews offers you the peace of mind that your experience will likely be a positive one. Although your visit is focused on completing a specific task–getting your DOT physical done–things like professionalism of the healthcare provider and cleanliness of the practice still matter.

IV Iron Infusion

This message is from our Nutrient IV specialist, Dr. Frances Lee:

Iron deficiency is a common nutrient deficiency that can lead to fatigue, feeling cold and tired, difficulty
exercising, increased strain on the heart, palpitations or tachycardia, hair loss, cold hands and feet,
chronic headaches, brain fog, dizziness when standing, depression, muscle aches, and restless legs.
Digestion is an inefficient process for absorbing nutrients depending on underlying issues, resulting in a
low absorption rate of 50%.

Iron infusion therapy is an effective treatment for iron deficiency, allowing for a bypass of the digestive
process and resulting in a 90-95% absorption rate.
As a practitioner, one of the most common nutrient deficiencies that I treat is low iron. Low iron is
prevalent among menstruating individuals, vegetarians/vegans, marathon runners, people of color,
those with gastrointestinal conditions, and 2% of men.

Symptoms of low iron:

-fatigue
-feeling cold and tired
-difficulty exercising
-palpitations or tachycardia
-hair loss
-cold hands and feet
-chronic headaches
-brain fog
-dizziness when standing
-depression
-muscle aches
-restless legs
-pica (craving non-food items such as ice, dirt, or clay)

Iron infusion therapy is an excellent treatment that is typically covered by insurance. The procedure is
quick, painless, and the best part is that patients start to feel better almost immediately. As a
naturopath, my goal is to encourage obtaining nutrients from food and to use the most effective, least
invasive treatments possible. However, in cases where patients have been experiencing symptoms for
years or when low iron becomes anemia, iron infusion therapy may be necessary.

When I see patients having these symptoms, that’s when the gloves come on, literally & figuratively.
It is important to note that while iron infusions are relatively quick and painless, not everyone is a
candidate for this type of therapy. If you resonate with the symptoms described here or suspect you
may have an iron deficiency or anemia, or have been diagnosed previously please talk to your
healthcare provider at ISM. Rest assured that we are here to help you on your journey towards optimal
health and wellbeing.

Best regards,
Dr. Jamie Agisheva

Increase Your Daily Fiber Intake in Mill Creek with This Delicious Healthy Snack Recipe

healthy snack recipe mill creek

Did you know that our daily fiber requirement by the FDA is 25 grams? Dr. Jamie Agisheva, ND, recommends her patients strive to reach a goal of 35 grams of protein per day in their diet. Our ancient ancestors could have been devouring a whopping 100 grams of fiber every day! Now that’s some serious chomping and a hefty competition for any health-conscious person. Fortunately, this healthy snack recipe featuring chia seeds makes it quick and easy to get nearly a quarter of Dr. Agisheva’s daily fiber requirement and truly enjoy it.

What Are the Benefits of Chia Seeds?

Dry chia seeds are naturally high in fiber and have a mild taste. Just two tablespoons have 8-10 grams of fiber, nearly a quarter of the fiber you’ll need if your recommended intake is 35 grams per day. Fiber is known for improving gut health and helping regulate blood sugar, as well as keep you feeling full longer. Dry chia seeds are also easy to transform into a tasty pudding snack with practically no effort.

High Fiber Dessert Snack

You’ll need dry chia seeds and either water or any milk alternative, such as soy, almond, coconut or hemp. This recipe can be made in almost any quantity as long as you use ¼ cup chia seeds for every cup of water or alternative milk. Once prepared, your snack will last several days in the refrigerator.

  • Mix your ingredients in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid.
  • Let stand for 20 minutes, stir again, and refrigerate overnight.
  • Stir in fresh seasonal berries and enjoy!

What to Look for in An Alternative Medicine Clinic Serving Kenmore

alternative medicine kenmore

If it seems difficult to find an alternative medicine practice you can trust, there are several things to look for so you find one that fits your needs and you feel comfortable with. Keeping them in mind as you research your options helps you narrow down your choices quickly and get you the healthcare you need faster.

Areas of Specialty

Naturopathic doctors that practice alternative therapies as part of their healthcare services may have an interest and greater experience in helping people with certain conditions or specific age groups. Practices may have a reputation for being great for families or athletes or be well-known for services to those with diabetes or hypertension.

Licensed Physicians

Like conventional MDs, alternative medicine providers who are Naturopathic Doctors are also required to hold a state license to practice. Ask the naturopathic doctor you’re considering going to about their education, residency and experience. A licensed doctor has completed a minimum of education and training so you can feel confident that you’ll get quality care.

Patient-Centered Care

As with any doctor visit, when you’re in the waiting room or the examining room, you want to feel respected and truly cared for. If you have concerns about how the office staff or the physician communicates with you, the practice may not be a good match for your needs. Ideally, you’ll feel at ease enough to speak with your alternative medicine doctor candidly about any health concerns you have.
